Many players may have been surprised to find that after the game's 60-hour main story ends, Red Dead Redemption 2 contains another 6 hours of epilogue.

Red Dead Redemption II is a massive game with so much to do. After RDR2's epilogue, there are still more adventures to go on. Red Dead Redemption 2 is undeniably a giant game. It can take around 50 hours just to mainline the story, and that run time can easily be doubled by dabbling in the additional content.

When you resume play as John, everything except for the above items will be saved as they were heading into the final mission of Red Dead Redemption 2. Weapons, Outfits, Kit items, Trinkets, Talismans, Valuables, and Documents all transfer over to John in the post game.

You automatically get all the clothes you had as Arthur but all of the gold and non-unique items you had are gone. There's no way to get them back sadly, thats why I'd suggest doing the treasure hunts as john instead.

The only way to continue to play as Arthur after the story is over is to reload a save from before the ending of chapter 6. Of course this does mean anything you unlocked in chapters 6–8 are now gone unless you want to reload a save as John.

Regardless of story choices made, Arthur dies, and the game allows you to continue playing as John Marston, prior to the events of the original Red Dead Redemption. There are no cheats to allow play as Arthur, so there is no way to continue playing as him unless you revert to an earlier save.

The last time you can free roam as Arthur is after the mission “My Last Boy.” The next mission, “Our Best Selves,” will automatically go into the final mission “Red Dead Redemption” with no stopping point. If you have any side quests or anything to finish up with Arthur, do it before starting “Our Best Selves.”

Others are mentioned by name only like Strauss, Reverend Swanson, and Karen, while some await John's arrival in Red Dead Redemption, like Javier, Bill, and Dutch. Red Dead Redemption 2's epilogue is so long because there are a lot of loose ends to tie up by the end of the game.
